SAFEStreets: A youth-led crime prevention education and awareness campaign

Young people at risk offending will soon have the chance to co-design an education campaign aimed at increasing young people’s understanding of the Victorian Justice system.

SAFEStreets will be delivered in two phases – the first a co-design process led by young people in partnership with key stakeholders in the justice system.  Through this process a series of practical workshops will be developed along with a suite of creative resources to support the campaign.

The second phase of the program will see young people have the opportunity to participate in the workshops which will focus on increasing young people’s understanding of key elements of the Victorian Justice System and improving their understanding of the consequences of criminal offending.

“This project provides an opportunity for stakeholders to work together with young people to establish consistent messaging around key legal concerns and to develop creative mediums to ensure these messages reach their intended audience.” Barwon Community Legal Service Executive Officer Bryanna Connell said.

The SAFEStreets project is an initiative of the Barwon Community Legal Service (BCLS) and will be delivered in collaboration with the City of Greater Geelong (CoGG) and other local stakeholders.  BCLS acknowledges the support of the Victorian Government.
